Peace Beads Celebrates United Nations Day 2007: One World. One Environment. The Future Is Now
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 24, 2007 -- This year marks the 62nd Anniversary of the United Nations. UNA Pasadena/Foothills Chapter and Peace Beads will be joining others around the world in celebrating this historic occasion. This year's prestigious event will take place overlooking the historic Pasadena Arroyo at the beautiful Western Justice Center on Saturday, October 27, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The celebration will highlight safeguarding the environment for future generations and the global necessity to move toward sustainability. This "green initiative" is also an effort to encourage cities within the United States to perform beyond the nation's environmental standards. Honorees include Congressman Adam Schiff, Mayor Bill Bogaard, Pasadena Star News Editor Larry Wilson, Ethos Water Founder Jonathan Greenblatt and others, and we welcome keynote speaker Gillian Sorensen, Senior Advisor and National Advocate of the United Nations Foundation. The "sponsor garden" will feature the latest information on the greening of businesses and homes while local student environmental projects will be displayed in the gallery.
In the six decades since its birth, the United Nations has served the global community touching important aspects of life around the world. Today, the United Nations continues to forge its global commitment to human rights by mobilizing international grassroots support for its campaign to achieve the Eight UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). By the year 2015, the 191 Member States of the United Nations have pledged to use their resources to bring about an end to eight of the world's largest and most persistent crises including poverty, hunger, HIV/AIDS, child mortality and safeguarding the environment for future generations.
UNA Pasadena/Foothill Chapter partner Peace Beads is committed to generating global peace, envisioning a world in which every human being may enjoy freedom and self-expression. Today's Peace Beads are a symbol of this vision, given by one person to another in the same spirit that made original peace beads popular in the 1960s.
Peace Beads are made by communities in need, fostering the opportunity for increased stability and prosperity. The first design is specially crafted by American Indians of the North American High Plains, bringing together members of different tribes working harmoniously, creating a model for international peace.
In an effort to further promote global peace, Peace Beads supports various organizations such as the United Nations Association that share its philosophy. These relationships enable Peace Beads to assist in raising funds to support the overall cause and to reach more people with the message of peace and freedom.
We look forward to seeing you on October 27, 2007. For further information, visit www.unapasadena.org.
